Codemasters boss Rich Tysoe has replied to frustrated gamers forums posts explaining the stat reset was the only fair way to sort the system out:

“Given the number of reports we’ve had of people abusing the ranking system to get unfair ranks, it was only fair that we did a reset.”

“It’s never an easy decision to make, and we’d rather it hadn’t come to this, but changes in the patch should make gaining those ranking points back fairer. In UK paper The Daily Mirror of all places is a piece that states the Xbox 360 Elite consoles are dropping like flies just as bad as regular 360 consoles with the notorious red ring of death syndrome.
